The Experiences of a Drury Senior
Drury University offers many opportunities for Drury Students to grow and evolve
As someone who has been a Drury student for the last four years, there are many lessons I have learned during my time here.
First and foremost, there is value in coming to a small school. Students aren’t just a face in a crowd of hundreds. Your professors will remember who you are, know your strengths, watch you grow, and be a listening ear if you need it. They have a personal stake in watching you succeed. I’m in the English Department and I have had my professors cheer for me as well as sit down with me and ask me questions about how I am doing. It’s a great feeling knowing without a doubt, there are people in your corner to help you in any way that they can.
Drury also lets you consider all your options. When I came to this school, I was an Art Administration and Business Management double major, but I quickly realized how much that didn’t fit me and what I wanted to do. As a liberal arts college, students can explore anything they are interested in and not just their area of study. As a result, I was able to find my love in English literature and study criminology and history. I have taken classes in business, philosophy, history, art, ethics, and more.
Although Drury is a small college, there are many organizations on campus. These give students opportunities to meet new people, volunteer to raise money and awareness, and build resumes for life after Drury. I am currently the Editor in Chief of our school’s newspaper, The Mirror; Vice President of Sigma Tau Delta, the school’s English Honor Society; and Treasurer for Habitat for Humanity. I have done so much at Drury University because I have had all the opportunities to do so.
I have used the Compass Center as well for course advice, inquiring about internships, and career planning for what I want to do after my time ends at Drury. If students need help, have questions about courses or apply to jobs, the Compass Center is a great tool. There is no need to figure it out all on your own when resources are available to give students their best chance at success.
I have enjoyed my time at Drury University because of its size and passion to help students become who they are meant to be. You won’t just be a face in the crowd but someone who is seen and heard.
